Black 7/8 Boxer Hybrids
Our Black
7/8 Boxer Hybrids are the result of crossing our black and
white 3/4 Boxer stud with our purebred Boxer dams.
in recent years we have noticed a lot of interest in the
Sealed Brindle (AKA Black Boxers). The original
Black Boxers of history were found to be the result of
an outbreeding to a Schnauzer X Bulldog cross. The
founders of the early Boxer show bloodlines elected to
not accept these dogs to be shown as Boxers.
Therefore the black coloration of the Boxer is
considered an unacceptable color by AKC and other such
show breeder standards. Therefore they have been
culled from the Boxer bloodlines over the past century
or so. In more recent times people have developed
a liking for the now unusual black colored Boxers.
The currently available "Black Boxers" are the result of
continuous breeding of the darkest reverse brindle
Boxers. This practice has created what is called a
sealed brindle coloration. The sealed brindle
color Boxers have so much black overlaying the base fawn
coat that they appear to be black in most lighting.
It is our belief that this is not the best practice in
maintaining healthy well bred Boxers. Boxers
already have a rather long list of known problems that
are all to prevalent in the breed. These problems
were caused by the premature closing of the breed to
outbreeding in the early development of the breed.
Excessive inbreeding and line breeding done by show
breeders over the past century has left the genetic
diversity of the Boxer far too narrow and the same
negative genetic traits are inadvertently repeatedly
bred back into the breed. By narrowing this
breeding to just the Boxers that carry the extreme
reverse brindle coloring these genetics are tightened
even more. Upon coming across our stud Loki who
looks and acts like a Boxer, carries genetics for the
Black coat and is not a purebred boxer we saw an
opportunity for change. Loki is the result of
breeding a purebred brindle Boxer sire to a Black Bull
Boxer dam. We plan to keep the best of Loki's pups
that maintain the highest black coloration to breed back
to unrelated Boxers and Boxer Hybrids to create a
bloodline of Black Boxer looking and acting dogs that
have more genetic diversity than the currently available
sealed brindle purebreds. We hope by doing so we
can create a Black "Boxer Like" dog with better health and
longevity than the "Black Boxers" that are currently
becoming so popular. Of course all the pups will
not be the sealed brindle (black) color and there will
be some that are more "normal" colors. |
